This week, I welcome Veronica Schreibeis Smith, CEO and Founding Principal of Vera Iconica Architecture, to the podcast. Here is a fun behind-the-scenes fact: I record this podcast in a shitty, faux wood-paneled, 1957 sewing room. So, I was admittedly a little intimidated by Veronica. Her company specializes in wellness architecture - the art and science behind designing built environments that enhance human health and well-being. Veronica has practiced architecture, speaks, and leads think tanks all over the world. She is doing amazing work. I'm so stoked to have her drop by Le vital corps Salon and for you to meet her.
We’ll, of course, learn more about what wellness architecture is and how Veronica is helping clients improve their lifestyle through wellness builds. She also brings awareness to how our surroundings have an impact on us. Did you know that even the sound and smell of a building can affect our physiology and psychology? It’s a fabulously interesting concept and and eye-opening conversation. But, wait, there’s more!
We also have a deep discussion about running too fast and how to purposefully slow down. Veronica shares some of her own self-care practices. Finally, we talk A LOT about habits - shifting habits, changing habits, and yes, even the unhealthy habits. The struggle is real, so let’s be honest, right?
Hopefully, this episode is a reminder to you, as Veronica so eloquently said, to, “Start surrounding yourself with something that can empower you to live the purpose-driven life you were designed to live.“ Oh, and don’t forget to share this episode with one person you know, and subscribe wherever you listen to podcasts. Many thanks!

[00:06:06] All too often conventional construction techniques actually lead to buildings that are unhealthy, and they can hurt our cognitive performance - buildings where you might be blaming your afternoon fog on your lunch. But it could actually be coming from the environment that you're surrounded by. There's not a lot of education or awareness of how much our surroundings impact us.
[00:07:53] People think that if a building is built to code, that it's good. [...but,] it can still be incredibly unhealthy. It's just like with humans. A truly beautiful building is more than skin deep. It's more than looks.
[00:34:15] Wellness architecture encompasses all dimensions of well-being, including the ones that are harder to talk about like spiritual or emotional wellness.
[00:42:51] [On how she developed a thicker skin] It's a combination of experience and knowing your inner truth. As you gain experience, you start to understand, especially as a woman, you learn to listen to your intuition. You learn to value it and learn to trust it.
[00:54:23] [On a building a successful/collaborative relationship] Making sure that you show up to something with the respect and holding the space for the possibility that you are interviewing them as much as they are interviewing you. In order for you to do your best work, you need to love working for them, and they need to live really appreciate and value your services.
[01:03:57] I am constantly struggling with having healthy lifestyle habits, and my habits are constantly shifting. Nobody is alone in wishing they had a better wellness program for their life.
[01:18:29] [On letting go of control] You have to let go, and you have to give people faith and trust.
[01:26:23] You deserve better. Don't fall for the propaganda of products or lifestyle assumptions that you're being told you have to have. Take a moment to look around your surroundings and purify your life.
[01:27:00] Start surrounding yourself with something that can empower you to live the purpose-driven life you were designed to live.

Got something to say? A question? An idea for a future guest? The comment section is there for you, IF you can (1) be excellent to others, (2) ask or say things like you're talking to a real human, and (3) be critical without being nasty. If you can't do that, prepare to be deleted. Otherwise, have fun and merci beaucoup for adding to the convo.
